Alexandra Bracken has written the best book I’ve read all year. Eglantine, Sorceress Imperial, Oliver, even Owaine. Just waiting for the right girl to break him in.

One day, Sydelle becomes deathly sick due to injgesting a poison. Sydelle slowly overcomes her resentment of her mysterious, arrogant captor as she learns about the ways of magic and her own unexpected place within it. However, her love for North would not be as real if she had never had something or someone to choose. Our lovely heroine Sydelle finds herself caught in the middle of this maelstrom of events.

The romance did not hurt either. Every author has a duty to her readers, to make sure that the money they’re spending on her books is worthwhile, and when I was sixteen and writing really trashy novels, I knew better than to think it was good enough for the general public to read.

Later, she is invited to visit Queen Eglantine who reveals that she wants to trade her to the King of Auster the Salderran King in order that he will stop vying for her crown.

Strangely he choses that Sydelle accompany on his journey to the capitol to stop the oncoming war.

She gets that opportunity sooner than expected when a young wizard, Wayland North, comes to town in a whirlwind of much needed rain. He asks to speak with Sydelle’s father, who is the village elder.

North explains to Sydelle that wizards are ranked based on how many duels they win. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I didn’t even try to guess what was going to happen, because I failed miserably at every attempt. She alxeandra never have been content. Brightly Woven was one of those books I found myself inexplicably excited about there’s a wizard named North?!

Review of Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken

What sealed the deal was the romance, which is really the core of the book. Dec 05, Kogiopsis rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: The world Bracken created was vivid and unique, as were the characters.

I felt as if I travelled with North and Syd through the dusty towns and dangerous duels, and went through it all with them. Great choice for what I was hoping to experience in a YA fantasy read.
