fife Even though we were only a hundred yards from the house, I had never been there, and neither had anyone else that I knew of. I found these stories very creative. To me, this is a story about the narrator, Bobby, a sixty-one year old man, unmarried and childless, and members of his family, his brother, his twelve year old nephew, and his mother.

To be honest, it feels as if the collection was written by two different people. All my favourite stories lie in the first group, which includes bears carrying torches, lobster hunting truck drivers,and life after death researchers.

But you could also say it is about the lead human character, his relationships with his brother and their ailing mother, and the insensitivity of the average man in the modern age. Not perfect — the alien’s odd method of communication was pretty silly and the stoner’s explanation worse and the end was a little anticlimactic, but it was still a very well-made story.
Amusing, but not too deep. The state troopers who arrive in the morning after the bears have gone “scattered the bears’ fire ashes and flung their firewood away into the bushes. Nothing else has got me this excited about the Science Fiction genre. In the title story “Bears Discover Fire” nothing happens expect bears discovering fire and beginning to live in the medians of freeways. Since it was a left rear tire, I pulled over to the left, onto the median grass. Here’s the IMDB link. The TV showed more guys talking about bears than it showed bears, and Wallace Jr.
Recommended, if only for the best ones. The theory in the Courier-Journal was that they were following down from the forests of Michigan and Canada, but one old man from Allen County interviewed on nationwide TV said that there had always been a few bears left back in the hills, and they had come out to join the others now that they had discovered fire.
If we stayed on the path we might run into one in the dark, but if we went through the bushes we might be seen as intruders. This one is probably best considered with some creeper and a bonfire. Almost every story I had read by this point I have not liked with the exception of “Press Ann,” which I thought was pretty good and most of the stories I have found to be irritating.
Here in western Kentucky, though, it was still warm for late October and they only stayed around the fires at night. Short and overplayed, like the others, but a little sharper and a little nastier, and just a little more satisfying.

I’m not at all averse to reading more. I really only read the book for the short story in the title, which was a clever idea that had much more potential. I thought that was a pretty liberal view for a state commissioner. There are ebars discussion topics on this book yet. Though they were gathered together, their spirits still seemed solitary, as if each bear was sitting along in front of its own fire.
I sat down and tried to watch TV, but there was nothing on. It was dark by the time Bksson got back to the house, and Wallace Jr. Plus there were the football trips.

I got over a third of the way through this book, which was about half of the stories in it, and decided I couldn’t take it anymore. The nurse said she had been agitated all day. In northern Virginia, according to Good Morning America, the bears were siscover their fires going all day long. Definitely at the summit of his craft.
