Un meurtre sera commis le by Agatha Christie (2 star ratings)
Why didn’t she simply pop off Rudi Scherz quietly without attracting too much attention? Did I forget a detail here? Hence getting away with murder. Killing Rudi quietly would be a reasonable choice leastwise that’s what I would have donebut then the book couldn’t have such an interesting title. This is my first Miss Marple book. I don’t know why, but I’m always expecting more from Christie than I got. Miss Marple solves crimes because she has such a keen understanding of human nature. And that would be fine, except the actions of the killer in this story are so unnatural, at first contrived and then against character, that I find it hard to believe that insight into human nature is cimmis finally gave the killer away. The other thing that surprised me in this book is that I actually suspe This is my first Miss Marple book.
The other thing that surprised me in this book is that I actually suspected the killer from the start. I was pretty sure who did it, but I was at a complete loss as to wgatha. By the end, I was concocting bizarre theories to explain the whys of things, while having the who correct all along. And by the end, I am still dissatisfied with the explanation.
And there is one fairly large loose end that is left dangling: It was OK, and a bit diverting, but there are much, much more engaging mysteries out there.
I enjoyed this, lf first Miss Marple I’ve read, and it was quite clever.
But I had suspected I wouldn’t be able to get much attached to Marple, and I found that, sadly, to be the case. I have a limited capacity for enjoying the dialogue of old English ladies – who describe everything in italics e.
Though Marple, of course, possesses an acute sense of observation, a formidable sleuth w I enjoyed this, the first Miss Marple I’ve read, and it was quite clever. Though Marple, of course, possesses an acute sense of observation, a formidable sleuth with a disarming costume of woolen shawls and knitting needles.
Maybe I’m just burnt out on mysteries right now.
She murmured under her breath, ‘People are really very alike, everywhere.
I don’t know that you remind me of anyone in particular. Except perhaps -‘ ‘Here it comes,’ said Bunch. I should make a terrible parlourmaid. She was no good at all at waiting at table. Put everything on the table crooked, mix “Miss Marple leaned back in her chair. Put everything on the table crooked, mixed up the kitchen knives wi the dining-room ones, and her cap this was a long time ago, dear her cap was never straight.
I liked the way she said things straight out. Came to me one day, “Of course, I don’t know, ma’am,’ she says, ‘but Florrie, the way she sits down, it’s just like a married woman. Fortunately it was in good time, chhristie I was able to have a little talk with him, and they had a very nice wedding and settled down quite happily.
She was a good girl, Florrie, but inclined to be taken in by a gentlemanly appearance.
Book Review “Une meurtre sera commis le” by Agatha Christie — Anna Hartley
Two and a half stars. This is classic Christie: I was prepared for that, having seen several films based on the book. I finally decided to read it just to find out of there actually was a hint of a lesbian relationship between Misses Hinchcliffe and Murgatroyd, or if they were simply two jolly-hockeysticks spinsters who decided to share a h Two and ser half stars.
I finally decided to read it just to find out of there actually was a hint of a lesbian relationship between Misses Hinchcliffe and Murgatroyd, or if they were simply two jolly-hockeysticks spinsters who decided to share a gaatha, and the film directors wrote in the rest.
I guess it really is implied, though of course Christie would never spell it out, since in those days same-sex relationships were illegal in the UK. What I wasn’t quite prepared for was the nasty, open streak of racism that runs through the story. Of course Mitzi is lying when she says she was a writer and thinker in her own country–after all, she’s the cook, and something that even Crockford refers to repeatedly as a “mittel Europa”.
I guess he means she’s from Central Europe, and we all know don’t we? Well, maybe not in rural England. I knew a Russian professor of military strategy who ran a very successful eatery in seta S. European city for many years. And of course Rudi Scherz is a wrong ‘un–after all, he’s Swiss, which is almost German!
Add to that the tedious tell-not-show recap ending, which I found rather a trudge to read through, and the total comes to just two stars. I had expected it to be a fast, light read but I found it slow going. A Murder is Announced was, as I’m finding usual with Agatha Christie, quite fun and reasonably absorbing. One could tire of it very easily, since the writing isn’t anything special — although I generally like the characters in the background quite a lot.
When I like them a lot, it’s a three-star read; when no one particularly caught my attention, only two-star. The difference between “it was ok” and “liked it”. The plot of this one is very torturous, and very Okay, okay, most of t A Murder is Announced was, as I’m finding usual with Agatha Christie, quite fun and reasonably absorbing. Okay, okay, most of these books are, but the way that two imposters show up, but neither of them are actually doing anything wrong, although both keep their identity hidden, and then suddenly at the end a third imposter is revealed Still, fun and easy, which is what I expect from these books.

Sobre todo porque al final suelen quedar flecos que no entiendes. Bueno en el fondo solo decir que es una historia entretenida, como todas las de Agatha! Predictable and Dizzy I love Agatha Christie, and this was an intriguing mystery, but honestly, there were so many fluffy nitwits in this large ensemble of characters, I couldn’t keep them straight.
Un meurtre sera commis le…
They all seemed alike: Anyone else was just so dry and always with a “steady gaze”. Like there’s only just those two types of people in the world. Bu Predictable and Dizzy I love Agatha Christie, and this was an intriguing mystery, but honestly, there were so many meurte nitwits in this large ensemble of characters, I couldn’t keep them straight. But this one gave me a headache.
So much dizzying endless talking. The clincher is that I guessed oe by the second chapter. So what does that say? Yo no me encuentro entre ellos. La novela esta bien construida apilando todos los elementos y convenciones habituales en las novelas de Christie hasta neurtre monumentales. I want to like Agatha Christie more than I currently do.
She’s the queen of whodunnits and cosy crime plus she has written loooooooads of books.
